DELIVERY UPDATE
On Thursday September 8th the first 53’ truck left for Louisiana filled to the top with 27 pallets of your donations. This first load will be delivered to a local volunteer operation in Baton Rouge, coordinated by the Southern Baptist Convention. They will take care of off-loading and distributing the Operation Ryan’s Hope donations to the many town shelters that are in desperate need of supplies. We have been in daily contact with them receiving updates on the conditions and ever-changing priority of needs. This purely volunteer organization has thousands of relief people on the ground in the disaster area and uses its network of church groups to distribute clothes and other basic necessities to the areas in most need.
The second truck arrived in Alexandria for The Shepard Center, a local shelter in Alexandria Louisiana that is now servicing a community doubled in size. As described by the Center:
“The Shepherd Center is an ecumenical center of last resort whose purpose is to provide temporary aid to individuals and families experiencing financial crisis. Due to hurricane Katrina, The Shepherd Center now has an overwhelming number of evacuee's coming in for assistance. Since the Red Cross and Salvation Army cannot provide assistance to evacuee's who are not staying in their shelters, the Shepherd Center has stepped in to help all of those evacuee's who are staying in hotels, cars, private shelters and with family members. This has been a huge undertaking for such a small non-profit organization. The Shepherd Center has already helped over six hundred evacuee's and we expect those numbers to increase over the weeks to be in the tens of thousands.
The Shepherd Center is in need of non-perishable food items, hygiene products, laundry detergent and baby items.”
Our Third Truck left on Thursday, September 15th and arrived on September 20th in Kinder, LA.
As of October 10th, we have sent over 8 semi truck loads of supplies to the following locations:
Alexandria, LA
Slidell, LA
Gonzales, LA
Kinder, LA
Baton Rouge, LA
Bridge City, TX
Our next trucks will be headed to:
Opelousas, LA
Lafayette, LA
Poplarville, MS
Returning to Slidell, Alexandria and Kinder, LA.
Operation Ryan’s Hope will continue to send deliveries to disaster area shelters and groups as long as your donations continue to flow in.
